The buyer’s guide
Basic Website Design for UK Small Businesses
What basic website design means, what it costs (£24.99–£59.99 a month plus a one-off setup), what's included and how long it takes. Straight answers, no agency waffle.
What is a basic website design?
A basic website design is a small, fast, well-structured site that does the essential job: says who you are, shows what you do, proves you're real and makes it easy to contact you. It's typically three to ten pages, mobile-first, with proper headings, fast hosting, an SSL certificate and structured data. What it leaves out is the stuff most small businesses never use — custom portals, heavy animation libraries, bespoke design systems and a brand workshop you didn't ask for.
How much does a basic website design cost?
From £22.49 a month plus a one-off £75 setup fee — every plan includes hosting, SSL, SEO, AI search setup and monthly updates.
| Plan | Pages | Monthly | One-off setup | After 12 months |
|---|---|---|---|---|

What does a basic website actually need to do?
It needs to turn a stranger into a phone call, a WhatsApp message or a quote request — nothing else is the point. That means your service and your area visible in the first screen, prices or price ranges where you can give them, proof that you're a real business, and a contact method one tap away on a phone. Everything on the page that doesn't push towards one of those is decoration you're paying to host.
What separates a good basic site from a template?
Structure. A template gives you a layout; it doesn't give you a heading hierarchy Google can parse, a meta title written for the search someone actually types, or JSON-LD describing your business so AI answer engines can quote it. Two sites can look identical and one gets found while the other never appears. That structural work is most of what you're paying for.
How the build works, step by step
You fill in a short brief — what you do, where you work, who you want to hear from. We write the page structure and keyword targets around real search demand rather than guesses. We build it, mobile-first. You review it and tell us what to change. We put it live on your domain with UK hosting, SSL and analytics already configured, then keep it updated every month.
What you're not paying for
No account manager, no discovery workshop, no brand deck, no £95-an-hour charge to swap a photo, no renewal quote that climbs every year, and no clause holding your code, content or domain hostage. We don't have a city-centre office, so you're not funding one.
Common questions
How much does a basic website design cost in the UK?
With us it's £24.99 a month for a single page, £39.99 for up to 3 pages, £49.99 for up to 6 and £59.99 for up to 10, with a one-off setup fee of £75, £150, £200 or £250. Larger entities can also discuss The Ultimate — a unique, fully tailored package with unlimited pages and changes, priced individually. That covers the build, UK hosting, SSL, security, SEO and monthly updates. Typical UK agency quotes for the same thing run £2,000–£6,000 upfront plus a maintenance retainer.
What's included in a basic website?
Every plan includes the design and build, UK hosting, an SSL certificate, security and software updates, monthly content or image changes, search engine optimisation and AI search setup with JSON-LD structured data so ChatGPT, Perplexity and Google AI Overviews can read and quote your business correctly.
How long does a basic website take to build?
Five to seven working days from the point we have your content. Day one is a short brief, days two to four are the build, day five is your review and changes, then it goes live on your domain with hosting and SSL already sorted.
Is a basic website enough for my business?
For a trade, salon, garage, tutor, consultant or local shop, yes — almost all of your visitors want your prices, your area, your reviews and your phone number. A basic site delivers those faster than a big one. You need more only if you're selling hundreds of products online, taking bookings against live availability, or running customer logins.
Is a basic website the same as a cheap website?
No. Cheap means corners cut where you can't see them — shared servers, no backups, no ownership, nobody answering the phone. Basic means the same engineering as an expensive site with the unnecessary parts removed. The hosting, the SSL, the structure and the support are not the parts we cut.
Do I own the website, and can I move it later?
Yes. There's no fixed-term contract — pay as you go and cancel anytime. After 12 months you either take a 35% loyalty discount or export your clean codebase free of charge and host it wherever you like.
Do I need a domain name first?
No. If you already have one we'll point it at your new site; if you don't, we'll check what's available and set it up for you as part of the build.
